Hindu Nights - Fri 24-06-11, Kunstencentrum Viernulvier

General Info

Concept

Hindu Nights came to life in 2008 as a counter movement to the 13-in-a-dozen r&b, electro and techno parties that rule the Belgian nightlife. The country in which each village has its own festival, where Pukkelpop and Rock Werchter sell out time after time and where concerts of Peter Doherty, The Streets and Kings of Leon attract full houses, only parties to cheap ‘90’s hits and commercial house?

More than time for a mentality change: rock and roll on the dance-floor. No more dancing to dull beats but swinging your hips to poppy guitars. No David Guetta or Felix Da Housecat but Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and Amy Winehouse. Parties in British style in other words.

Instigators Peter Verbeke and Pieter Schaut joined forces with veterans as Phil Smith (Oasis tour-dj) and Paul Gallagher (brother of, yes indeed), and the first Hindu nights was born. The then pretty unknown Black Box Revelation electrified the completely sold out Make-Up Club and that first edition was a big revelation, the start of something big.

And so they went on, the sold-out editions followed each other and Hindu Nights even became part of the Lokerse Feesten in 2009 and 2010, where they took care of the music between and after the shows of Peter Doherty, Manic Street Preachers, The Sex Pistols, Babyshambles, The Van Jets, Paul Weller and The New York Dolls.

In 2010 Hindu Nights also crossed the East-Flemish borders Het Depot in Leuven where the rock ’n roll circus touched down for the second time on February 18th with no one less than Jeff Wootton (Gorillaz/Beady Eye) on the line-up. This edition was followed by another sublime chapter in the Vooruit in Ghent with a.o. The Black Box Revelation, Broken Glass Heroes and Jeff Automatic (resident DJ in the legendary Koko club on the Club NME nights in Londen).

So prepare now for the newest Mass for the alternative youth, the third edition in de Vooruit in Ghent with an amazing line-up for what will probably be another sold out indie and rock ’n roll party and this in the luxurious, exclusive and legendary concert-hall. The production is in the hands of the people from K-events who have a long tradition of creating top events.
